Alberto Torres graduated from the Autonomous Institute of Technology of Mexico (Instituto Tecnológico Autónomo de México, ITAM) with a Bachelor’s degree in Economics. Subsequently, he successfully completed hisJ PhD studies in Economics at New York University (NYU). In December 2015, Alberto Torres joined the Ministry of Finance as Deputy Undersecretary for Public Credit, office responsible for the design and implementation of the public debt management strategy. Prior to his appointment at the Ministry of Finance, Alberto Torres worked at Banco de México’s Research Department for 21 years where he occupied several positions. From 2011 to 2015 he was the Central Bank’s Chief Economist. Regarding his research activities, Alberto Torres has published various articles in specialized journals and has participated in conferences and seminars at various central banks, international organizations and universities. In 2002 he received the Central Bank Award “Rodrigo Gómez” granted by the Center for Latin American Monetary Studies (CEMLA). Finally, with respect to teaching activities, from 1999 to 2006 he was lecturer for courses on Macroeconomics and Monetary Theory and Policy at ITAM.
