Mary is the first National Recorder for the Government of Solomon Islands, Ministry of Lands, Housing and Survey. Her role involves supervising, managing and implementing the recording of customary land rights. She has worked with various landholding groups across every province in Solomon Islands, recording and formalizing their traditional indigenous land rights under the Customary Land Records Act. Mary has worked with multi-stakeholders on issues affecting landowner rights like the United Nations Development Program, Australian Aid and now collaborating with World Bank on Cause II Project. She has been part of various task forces on land policy development.
Prior to National Recorder, she worked for five years with her father in private legal practice before joining government as Chief Legal Officer for the Ministry providing legal advice and support on land matters, where she also worked on the Strata Titles Act for Solomon Islands.She has delivered lectures to law students at the University of the South Pacific (Honiara Campus) on Land Reform in Solomon Islands. Her passion is bringing joy and healing to the many landowners she’s worked with. She holds an LLB and PDLP from the University of the South Pacific.
