Paola Tapia has a Law degree from the Catholic University of Chile and a master's degree in Law from the Catholic University of Valparaiso. She also have degrees in Public Sector Management and Public Policy from the University of Chile. For 13 years, she has held several positions in the Ministry of Transport and Telecommunications. She was Vice-President of the Board of the Metropolitan Trains Company; head of the Development Area of the Civil Aeronautical Board; in charge of the Legal Area of the National Control Program, as Head of the Legal Division in the Transport Under-secretariat and Legal Legislative Coordinator in the Cabinet of Minister Andrés Gómez-Lobo. Tapia was a lecturer at the University of Chile and the University of Talca. After her appointment by President Michelle Bachelet, Tapia became the first woman to head the Ministry of Transport and Telecommunications.
